We Replace Bad Laptop Fans

Fan Repair For Laptops: Many modern laptops have small high speed, high performance fans. If you use your laptop often, the fan will fail on most models of laptops in a very short time. A fan in a laptop may begin making more and more noise even before a laptop is one year old in a lot of cases. It will then get louder and louder until it needs replaced. In some cases the laptop’s fan will stop spinning and if the laptop is used it may overheat and cause damage. Many laptops will warn their user if the fan has failed, but not all.

Replacing A Bad Laptop Fan: Computer Repair Seattle replaces a lot of bad or failing laptop fans. Since many laptop models have different processor and video card options they have different fans configurations. To repair a laptop’s bad fan our techs need to test the laptop and inspect the fan. If the fan has failed we can order the correct part, and then replace it. In many cases this requires removing the motherboard. Many laptop fans are mounted on the top side of the motherboard.

Laptop Fan Repair / Replacement

Repairing A Laptop Fan: In some cases we find the actual fan is ok. The housing holding the fan has warped from heat and use. In many cases we can repair the fan fairly easily by straightening the metal fan housing. This is great for our customers because it is a lot quicker and less expensive than replacing a bad fan. A large percentage of fans that make noise simply need their housing straightened. This repair usually lasts for quite some time as long as the bearings in the fan are still good.

Sometimes Fans Work But Get Clogged And Need Cleaned: In some cases a laptop’s fan is fine, it just needs a good cleaning. The fan can have so much lint and dust in the area that it does not spin right, or at all. If this is the case our technicians simply clean the fan and heat sink completely. We will test the laptop and check the fan’s performance. The fan may be fine, just clogged. We also repair fans in desktop computers.
