The new models do not have a removable hard drive, and getting data off a non working Macbook can be impossible. Backing up to iCloud, Time Machine, Time Capsule, or to external drives is very important.

Quite often an upgrade will fail, and Macbook, or iMac won’t boot, and a customer can’t get their data.
